Home Sweet Home

We moved in on Saturday! Everything is fine except for we are currently without TV service, a refrigerator, and there is a little problem with the plumbing that won't allow us to use the washer. The refrigerator will HOPEFULLY arrive sometime this week, Dish is coming out tomorrow to get us set up and once the plumbing issue is fixed tomorrow we should be able to use the washer. The plumbing issue really isn't so little so maybe I should explain. Saturday night after everything was unloaded anyone that had helped us move came back over for crawfish and shrimp. During this time I had decided to wash a load of sheets and towels that were in our hamper from Darrell's parent's house. 15 minutes after I had turned on the washer Sarah was walking out the garage door and started yelling, "WATER!, WATER!, WATER!, WATER!..." We had already had a small mishap with the dishwasher earlier in the day so I was tad bit stressed to say the least! Water was pouring, and I mean that in every literal way possible, out of the laundry room, flowing from underneath the baseboards into the garage and storage room and out into the hallway! We rounded up every towel that we had in the house PLUS 11 ShamWOWS, which were thankfully given to us earlier in the day as a housewarming gift, and still couldn't soak up all the water. The plumbers came out yesterday and identified the problem which is ever so conveniently located under the slab! Yes, under the slab which means they are going to have to use a jack hammer to break up the concrete to get to the pipe that is blocked! Welcome Home!! Luckily they will only have to do this in the storage room so I guess that is a blessing.
Anyway, despite all the minor complications we are so excited about our new home. It sounds silly to say this but we are kind of in awe of the place. This is the only way I can really explain it-- when I have the luxury of staying at a really nice hotel or resort I'm generally so excited about the amenities of the room that I don't want to leave. It sounds ridiculous I know, but it is what it is. That is how I feel about the new house. I keep thinking that we are way too young to have a house this big and nice and that it's way too nice in general to be our house anyway so eventually I am going to have to check out or wake up from the dream and I don't want to! BUT then I remember that it's ours and I can stay there until I decide I want to go elsewhere! It's so exciting and I can't wait for things to start coming together and, AHEM, start working properly!! Until then we remain extremely thankful that we stumbled upon this place!
Here are a few pictures, and I emphasize a FEW, that I have taken over the past several weeks! I wish I would have taken some before we started any work and then after.

This was taken during the cook top installation. The crap that is fogging up the picture is the dust from cutting the tile! It covered everything, even things that weren't in the room with it.

I think Stella is adjusting well. At the other house she had a glass storm door to keep watch out of but now all the doors and most of the windows are too high for her so generally all you can see is her head or her eye brows! Saturday afternoon we were on the back porch and I turned around to walk inside and all I could see of her through the blinds was a white beard and a black nose!

P.S. that blind is coming down after I get the drapes made.

I don't think she really cares much about where she lives as long as she has her bed, her football, and her treats!
Dining Area

Entry way and hall to guest rooms and bath.

The stone fireplace, which the inspector made sure to point out was not a real fireplace and therefore I could not build a real fire in there otherwise it would smoke up the house. Apparently they have had a couple of people to really do that.

Kitchen

Off the hallway from the kitchen there is a pantry, office and pool - I mean laundry room.

Guest Bath
Master Bath
The 2 doors on the left of the tub are the closets. As a female I am really ashamed to say this but I don't have enough clothes to fill up my closet! It's an awesome closet and I love it but if I don't wear something within a 6 month time period it gets donated. So I'm only able to fill up one side of the racks in my closet. However, Darrell's overflow (a pack rat wardrobe with many pieces from the early 90's) takes up half of one rack on the empty wall so it doesn't look so empty.

In the words of Darrell's grandmother, "Baby, that shower is so big you could have a party in there."

The contents of our previous house crammed into 1 26 ft. truck minus 1 small table, 1 push mower and 4 boxes.

I think he enjoyed driving BIG YELLA a little too much!
