I don't really have anything interesting to talk about but I feel as if I have neglected the dear old blog for a few days to many.
I accomplished all of my Christmas shopping in about 3 hours on Saturday so I guess that is a pretty big accomplishment. And while at first I wasn't really pleased with the outcome of my tree and it's decorations, it's slowly starting to grow on me. However, I still don't like the hassle of the real tree that the hubs just had to have this year. Hopefully I've done enough complaining to persuade him otherwise next year. My mantle decorations are by far my favorite. I'll have to post pictures. Yet my house is awkwardly decorated. All of my decorations hit you in the face when you walk in but if you make your way to the rest of the house you slowly return to normal non-Christmas season life. I think I need to work on that.
My new neighbors across the street are currently enthralled in a Griswald family Christmas decorating competition with the neighbors two doors down. Quit frankly I think it's a tie. Each night I come home to something new. It started with some innocent icicle lights and then they turned them on in all their multi-colored glory. Then they added another string of icicle lights on the inside rim of their porch and car port. There are multi-colored blinking bush lights, light up candy canes that line the side walk, some sort of light up sleigh or Santa in each window and on Friday night the LIFE SIZE Santa showed up. I'm currently still waiting on the sleigh and reindeer to arrive. I'll keep you updated. And last night in the midst of a major rain/thunder/lightening/tornado/wind storm I heard their newest addition....recorded Christmas carols and Santa's voice saying "Ho, Ho, Ho Merry Christmas!" The new "noise" I guess is supposed to give LIFE to their LIFE SIZE Santa which sits in an inflatable chair with an inflatable gift bag and gifts and waves to all the passers by. Stella hates him. Last night he faked me out as I thought the cars that were slowing down were writing down our number off of our for sale sign, but then I realized they were just checking him out. Thanks neighbors.
I'm no Ebenezer Scrooge but I think decorations can be done in a nice tasteful way. A little goes a long way in my book but to each his own I guess.
The family, and I mean the entire Robertson clan, will be gracing 412 Mockingbird with it's presence on Monday night. My family is great and I love each and everyone of them dearly and love getting together with them but we are the closest dysfunctional family anyone could ever imagine. We get together for every birthday, holiday or whatever else constitutes a family dinner, however, that doesn't mean we all are currently getting along. So on Monday 13 Robertson tempers will descend on my living room along with the 3 in-law tempers. Luckily they will only be there long enough for cake and ice cream but that will probably end up being about 30 minutes to long because you don't put 16 people, let alone 16 Robertson's, in an 1100 sq. ft. space without someone getting irritated. So pray for a nice peaceful gathering to celebrate the December birthdays!
I've been trying to get more into the Christmas spirit so I bought the new Faith Hill Christmas CD this weekend. I like Faith Hill but I really like her new song, A Baby Changes Everything. To be honest I haven't heard much of the other traditional tracks because that song has been on repeat since Sunday. It outlines the story of Mary and the birth of baby Jesus and the meaning of this season, you know the one where we end up focusing more on gifts and decorations (guilty) rather than the birth of a baby in a stable. A baby who's life and death mean much more to me than any gift I have ever received or ornament I have ever hung on my tree. I can't make it through the song without tearing up at some point or another when I think of the sacrifice made for me and my eternity. The last verse is, "my whole life has turned around. I was lost, but now I'm found. A baby changes everything." A baby changed everything and for that I am so thankful!
Um. So. For a person who didn't have anything of interest of to post about I sure did say a lot. Anyway, I hope you and your fam have a holly jolly Christmas! I'll try and remember to get pictures of the neighbors houses and if you have any Griswald Christmas decor in your hood, I'd love to compare notes! Merry Christmas Ya'll!

Girl, you crack me up....I'm so glad you're back to blogging! Can't wait to see pics of your neighbors yards. I think their cousins live down the street from me. My kids think it's the greatest thing ever and ask why we can't do our yard like that...of course my dear hubs says, "yeah, why can't we do our yard like that?" So maybe that's why the neighbors are getting all grizwald on us...it's for the smile it brings to the kids!! I'm still not entering into that competition! I'll be saying a prayer for you on Monday!
Yeah, Andi's talking about us... kidding. But she's right. It's funny.
