Sometime earlier this year I was listening to the radio on my way into work and one of the morning shows was talking about Soldiers Angels, a program that was started by the mother of one of the soldiers in Iraq. It began when she discovered that her son's fellow soldiers were not receiving care packages or letters from family or friends and it quickly spread from a mom and her friends supporting one army unit to a worldwide organization with hundreds of thousands of members supporting American service members of every branch in many different ways. After hearing the short promotion for the program on the radio I looked them up on line and adopted a soldier of my own. Even though I haven't been the best adoptive friend these past 3 months, its really not that hard. You write a quick note or send a card at least every week and they ask that you send at least 1 or 2 care packages a month which can include anything from personal hygiene to snacks or movies and CDs.
There are currently 185 soldiers waiting to be adopted and while I don't have that many readers, I figured the 5 that I do have should have at least five friends that they can tell and then those 5 friends will tell their five friends and so on and so forth until we can adopt them all and thank them for their selfless acts of courage and commitment!! Please take a minute and visit http://soldiersangels.org/ to discover some of the different ways that you can become involved. They have many campaigns from letter writing and quilting to Bake Me A Wish, which send over birthday cakes. Its quick and easy and I know that its greatly appreciated!!!
